KILMANY JO LIVERSAGE

BIO OF THE ARTIST

Kilmany-Jo Liversage is known for brightly colored large-scale paintings that blur the boundaries between fine art and street art. Portraits such as Akari (2013) center anonymous subjects who are drawn from social media images—serving as a reminder of how much we have in common with hose we don’t know. Often drawing on the conventions of Renaissance portraiture, Liversage adds graffiti elements and tags as a way of reinvigorating the genre. The role of women in society is frequently addressed in Liversage’s works; staring defiantly out at the viewer as in FERVAE921() (2021), they challenge their role in a patriarchal society. Liversage also creates vibrantly colored still lifes such as FLORAE921() (2021). In 2013, she was invited to produce a series of portraits for the Venice Biennale.
