PAOLO MARTON
BIO OF THE ARTIST
Paolo Marton, from Treviso, was for years at the helm of the historic bookshop of the same name in Treviso. His entry into the world of photographic publishing was possible thanks to his profession as a bookseller, when a couple of publishers from Ivrea specialized in photographic volumes, gave him the task, together with an editorial agent friend, to make a volume about Veneto. From that moment, it was 1977, Marton began his career as a professional photographer, creating books: first self-financed, then produced on commission, by a publisher of international standing. Rome, magic over the centuries (1983) was the first of these and certainly represented a great success that made Paolo Marton known and appreciated also abroad. Since then, more and more important and demanding works followed, dedicated to the great Architectural Cycles and to the cities of art, such as Civiltà delle Ville Venete, the best known of all, followed by the Venetian Palaces, Verona, Florence, and Canova (sculptor, painter, architect in Possagno), and many others, all published several times. Marton has carried out complex photographic research on behalf of foreign publishers for European countries, publishing many volumes, including the monumental Castles of Germany (Munich 1995) and Palladio the architect and his time (New York 1994), as well as Palladio for Taschen, recently reissued. Marca Nobilissima (Treviso 1995), reprinted several times, is one of the latest works by the photographer from Treviso and represents a reinterpretation of one of the first subjects (among the most expensive) of his books, a best-seller for many years and still published .
